Image Stitching Operation
Digital stitching is a method to stitch two source images to assemble a panorama of the original one. In our case, the images can be shot handheld with a digital camera but it is necessary to have an overlapping region. Image registration, match and overlay are based on the selection of certain landmark (feature) points on both images by the user. The user is prompted to click on corresponding landmark (feature) points on the common area of the two images. Many digital images can be opened at the same time, but the user must choose the two of them he is going to stitch. It is recommended to open only two digital images that will be stitched subsequently in order to avoid confusion. After stitching, the resulting image can be stitched to a third image and so on.
A magnified view of the area around the current mouse position and the current mouse co-ordinates are shown to make the landmark point selection easier. The software automatically refines landmark point match, corrects geometric distortions between the two images (rotation, translation, scaling), stitches the two images and presents the result to the user. The software is user-friendly, runs on any PC and can be operated with minimal computer knowledge.
EIKONA PANORAMA can handle almost every kind of image, in any orientation. For the best results:
All images should be taken from the same viewpoint. When photographing, the user has to rotate the camera around the same viewpoint.
Lock the camera's exposure and white balance. In order to get the best results the user has to make sure that there are no brightness or color differences in the images.
